Can I perform the insemination at home or can this only
be done at the doctors office?
Inseminations may be done at home. However, we ship semen specimens
only to laboratories, clinics, and physician offices to comply with the standards of the
American Association of Tissue Banks. Our LN tanks are not intended for transport to
individual homes. However, you can pick the samples up from your doctor using dry
ice in a styrofoam container.
Who do I notify to report a pregnancy?
Call your doctors office and request that the office inform us
of the pregnancy. We provide a postcard in each shipment for pregnancy reporting.
How many tries does it usually take to achieve pregnancy?
Pregnancy rate is dependent on maternal age. Women under
thirty-five years of age usually require fewer attempts to achieve pregnancy than older
women. The pregnancy rate is also dependent on the clinic, type of ovarian
stimulation, insemination procedure used, and how ovulation is monitored. Often
young women are recommended to undergo five insemination cycles prior to switching to a
more aggressive technology such as IVF.
How many vials are usually purchased?
Most patients buy 3-6 vials of semen and have us ship the
samples as needed. This way they can use their first choice each month.
Is it possible for a child conceived through donor
insemination to contact the donor?
Reproductive Resources does not have an "open door"
program. We protect the anonymity of our donors and recipients. Photos of our
donors are not provided to the public, however we will photo-match your partner to a donor
if you send us a picture.
Is it possible to find out where donor pregnancies are
located?
We send pregnancy cards with each shipment of donor semen and
rely on the clinicians to report pregnancies to us. The number of reported
pregnancies in your geographical area will be provided to you upon request.
What is the difference
between standard and pre-washed vials?
Standard: standard specimens are for use in
cervical insemination. If your doctor wants to use a standard
vial for intrauterine insemination the sample must be washed prior to
insemination. This is a routine procedure done in many OB/GYN
and fertility clinics.
Pre-washed: pre-washed vials contain sperm that has already been
washed and can be used for intrauterine insemination after thaw.
If you need a donor specimen for an in vitro
fertilization procedure, standard vials should be purchased.
